Things to Do at Trillium Lake this Summer 

Under the majestic shadow of Oregon’s Mt Hood lies beautiful and iconic Trillium Lake. The lake was formed by a dam at the headwaters of Mud Creek in 1960. This stunning spot near the ski town of Government Camp is a great getaway year-round. During the summertime, it’s a popular day use and camping area, and winter offers excellent terrain for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing 

Where is Trillium Lake?  

Trillium Lake is a 10-minute drive south of Government Camp in the Mt Hood National Forest, and one hour from Hood River.  

Things to Do at Trillium Lake 

Our favorite thing to do at Trillium Lake is to head straight for the water. Go for a paddle on a SUP or kayak, relax on an inflatable float, soak up the sun from the glistening shoreline, or go fishing.  

Mt Hood Outfitters offers Trillium Lake kayak and SUP rentals from their Trillium Lake Dam location. 

The 63-acre lake is also stocked monthly with rainbow trout, making it a popular fishing spot. There are a couple of boat ramps along with a fishing pier where you can drop a line.  

Another great family-friendly activity is walking the Trillium Lake Loop Trail, a two-mile trail with stunning views of Mt Hood and the surrounding wetlands. The day use fee is $5 per vehicle.

Nearby attractions include Mt Hood Adventure Park at Skibowl which offers a variety of fun family-friendly attractions including bungee trampolines, a mountain bike park, race karts and the half mile dual Alpine Slide, and Timberline Lodge which is a national historic landmark – best known as the hotel where the The Shining was filmed. The lodge has several restaurants to choose from, as well as winter and summer skiing, and a bike park.
