Wonder on the River

Overall the home was cozy, comfortable, and relaxing. The only hiccup would be the showers are small and not for tall people like my over 6 foot husband....but the hot tub with river views all made up for the Gnome size showers. The sound of the river is amazing and are on the outdoor decks for several meals. Just that relaxing sound made relaxing so much better.

This was a really lovely stay! We booked it last-minute for new years and were surprised at how high quality the home was. The kitchen was pretty well-stocked, the rooms were comfy. The fireplace was kind of low in stock but nothing too bad. We had a very cozy and nice weekend staying here. The hot tub is amazing.

Beautiful Location, Wonderful Cabin

My wife and I had stayed at Moondance for a few days in 2008, and always talked about returning. We finally made it back for a week in October 2022. The cabin is wonderful, and the location couldn't be better, in the Oregon woods, with a lovely creek chucking along just past the back deck. A peaceful place to stay, with so much gorgeous scenery nearby. Mt. Hood, the Columbia River, views of the Oregon Cascades, trails for hikers, there is so much to see and do. And there are very good restaurants nearby, too. If you are looking for a quiet cabin, in the midst of bountiful natural beauty, this is it.

Quick Summer Getaway

After a wedding in Portland, we did a quick trip to the Mt Hood area to get in some hiking and relax. We stayed at Moondance for three nights at the end of July. We loved the cabin. The location was very convenient for a lot of things we wanted to do. The pictures and description in the listing were very accurate. There was a grocery store nearby with all the food and drink supplies we needed. There were plenty of kitchen supplies for our meals and the grill worked great. The hot tub was very nice after long hikes. The only negative was the air conditioning. It was unseasonably warm. The listing said it had air conditioning. The signs in the cabin said there was no air conditioning. But, there was an AC unit in the living/dining room - just not in the bedrooms. You had to restart it often but if you did that it worked pretty good. The messaging for this was just a little off and confusing. We loved the cabin and would definitely go there again.

You sent a message4 minutes ago "This was by far one of the best locations I have ever visited. We are already planning a return trip when weather is warmer. The cabin is cute, and the kitchen is well stocked. I would not recommend spring visits with small children as the water is pretty rapid, but I really loved sitting out on the deck and watching the water. Location is VERY convenient (close to a small grocery store, liquor store, and several lovely food spots), but once you are at the cabin you feel very secluded. You could slightly view neighboring houses, but it felt very private. I would highly suggest Zig Zag cafe for breakfast, and the cantina next to the grocery store was amazing. Very close to Mt Hood nat'l forest and all of the amazing hiking there, and the hot tub was a blessing after some long treks."

Spent two nights in Moondance cabin with an old friend. Many hours spent sitting around talking. It was very comfortable. The weather was not great so we were not able to sit outside but we could see that it would be a lovely experience another time. Rental process was remarkable. I received lots of helpful information in advance and during our stay. Only problem was with the wood stove- we had a hard time getting it started without lots of smoke - might have been our own inexperience.

A delightful getaway!

This was the perfect getaway for our family. The view of the water is perfect, and it was so nice to fall asleep to the sound of the water. It felt very cozy. There were even gnomes hidden around the property for our kids to find, and a guestbook. It was just 11 miles to Government Camp and SNOW. We hope to stay here again! Only thing to be aware of—the dishwasher is not *attached* to its cabinet, which can make it tricky to load and unload. But it was a great experience.

Ringing in the New Year at Moondance

upon our arrival we, as a family had zero expectations. We knew our spontaneous decision making to flee the city was on many others agendas. Deb was amazing and patient with me as I struggled to track down my boyfriend for approval. But we landed the most beautiful cabin, serene and peaceful, a true gem in the forest surrounded by the most amazing running creek sound. We had a nice time at the quiet cabin. The sounds of the river so close were soothing and calming. We cooked all meals there and lit a fire one night. It was cozy and nice, especially with the cheerful, lit, Christmas tree. Very nice touch! My husband did get a rash from the hot tub so I recommend people with sensitive skin be cautious. He showered immediately after every use and used the chemicals every night, just as instructed by management.

We loved this wonderful cabin for our old friends reunion! My friend wanted an isolated cabin in the snow with a stream nearby and we got all of that and a river immediately in our backyard; what a beautiful sound. The all wood cabin was so welcoming. Two masters and 2 baths gave us our own space for our sleep. We built our own fires and painted, worked a puzzle, cooked in nice kitchen and talked for hours with back door open to hear river. Perfect getaway!

Secluded location is magnificent! Loved having a hot tub, however, an inability to adjust the temperature was really unfortunate and put a damper on our stay. Once the jets run and the cover comes off, within 5 minutes the temperature drops by about 5 degrees, making it tepid and unpleasant. Then getting out into the cold air is miserable! We were also unable to change any channels on the tv, so again, a damper on our stay. The sounds by proximity to the creek are magical, but with the cost of rental and ensuing service fees we expected the amenities to be fully operational. The cabin is cute and unassuming, won’t stay again though.

Best Cabin Rental Ever

We have rented several cabins in various parts of the US (anywhere from Maine to Alaska), and this was the best one yet. It started and ended with the ease and excellent customer service of the Mt. Hood Vacation Rental points of contact. We were able to do everything online with ease. The customer service by everyone with this group was so awesome and they were so nice. Then there is the cabin which was perfect. Awesome cabin in the woods, very clean with all amenities. Rambling brook steps from the back patio, hiking trails, hot tub, fire place, skylights and awesome furnished patio. With the trees you felt completely isolated, however it is located only minutes from restaurants, grocery store and the wi-fi worked perfectly and fast (we had 3 teenagers with us so this was very important). From the reservation service to the cabin itself, 2,000 characters is not enough to describe how perfect this cabin is/would be for a couple and/or a family. Absolutely the best cabin rental we have ever had.

Nice cabin for smaller group

The cabin was smaller than it appears in the picture, fortunately I was by myself so that didn't matter much but if 6 were to stay it would be a very tight fit. The bedrooms both had closets but nothing else so storage of clothes for 2 in each would be quite fun, not a lot of space. Had problems with the gas grill, finally got it to light by hand the first time--they said they could come out on Tues. to fix with the call made on Sun.--said they could fix any time would just use matches. The second time I used it , it ran out of gas half way through cooking, the gauge telling what was left in the tank was way off--still showed half tank. Also left a note that the master bedroom sink did not drain well and the kitchen sink had a drip. The cabin was clean but these general small maintenance items were a distraction--I think the management company needs to put a note in each cabin each time they are rented asking the user to list any small problems like this when they leave. I have Verizon cell and it did not work in the cabin, so it was good to have a phone available to use--just had to wait to go into town to see who may have called. Wifi was great and used that instead of the phone to contact friends and tell them not to call. The location was excellent--near a lot of great hiking trails which was why I was there. The back deck was very relaxing with the sound of the stream, but 3 days of rain and drizzle didn't allow for much use. Overall I enjoyed myself--I have rented other cabins in the area, one way better and one way worse--having no neighbors was a plus but being somewhat smaller was a minus.

Lovely location, but ... * all floors were dirty, un-swept * Master bedroom and bathroom closets were dirty, layers of dust. * Cobwebs on many windows and curtains. * washer and dryer were so dirty they were unusable; we had to clean them out first; clothes still absorbed residual dirt after washing and drying, ruined some. It would have been nice if the property managers had offered a discount for the cabin condition.

Pretty close to perfect

This cabin is adorable, so cozy and comfortable. The kitchen is extremely well stoked and the beds comfortable. It feels very private with only one visible neighbor.I loved listening to the creek but I wish more of the windows opened. A couple of things kept it from a 5 star review: The hot tub is pretty high and the bench unstable. We almost fell a couple of times. Also, the wood walk way leading out to it gets very slippery -- some de-icer would have been helpful. The shower heads are pretty low. I'm only 5'3 and the water hit at chest level so washing my hair was a challenge. My poor husband is 6'2 so he really had to stoop. Most of the firewood provided, including the extra bundle we pre-purchased, was slightly damp so it was tough to get and keep a good fire going. Overall we loved the cabin and would definitely stay there again. The gnomes hidden all over were a cute touch. We may even bring a couple of ours to "retire" in the mountains next time. 🙂

Perfect couples getway

This cabin was just perfect for two couples. Has 2 bedrooms and a outside hot tub with a creek right at your back door. Cabin sat back far enough from the rural road amongst some secluded trees. Warm cozy feeling inside the cabin with the option to have a wood fire. The barbeque worked super well for cooking outside on the back deck.

Great Cabin in the Woods!

Our stay was wonderful! The Moondance Cabin was well maintained and clean when we arrived. There was plenty of firewood for the fireplace and the hot tub was terrific! The stream off the back of the property was actually a lot closer to the house and larger than I anticipated from the pictures. The house is quite secluded also even though it is right off the road. There is no road noise and you can't see any neighbors through the trees. The kitchen could use some updating and some of the furniture is getting close to needing a replacement, but we didn't want the Ritz Carlton, so these things didn't bother us. We would definitely stay here again!

My wife and I stayed in the Moondance cabin for our 10 year anniversary. We both had an amazing time. First, the customer service was great! The ladies at the rental office were responsive and very helpful. The cabin was amazing and very private, which was really important to us. It was clean and well taken care of. It's close to the ranger station, grocery store, and some great restaurants. The hot tub was great and has a great view of the creek roaring by. The only disappointment was that we had to leave.

A peaceful retreat

We stayed at the Moondance Cabin for 6 nights. The cabin was clean and was in good working order. We felt the best part of the cabin was the back deck. It has multiple seating areas and was close to a stream. The sounds of the water and birds were wonderful. The inside of the cabin was cozy and comfortable. The bathrooms and kitchen were a bit dated but clean. We did appreciate having a washer and dryer. Overall it was a great location for us, gave us the peace and quiet we wanted and we enjoyed our stay.

Near Perfection!

We absolutely loved this cabin (and had a feeling we would as soon as we booked it). It's rustic but equipped. Old fashioned but very comfortable. We have stayed at a lot of Mt. Hood Vacation rentals and have enjoyed so many of them, but this was one of the best. Lounging on the deck with Clear Creek right below us was amazing. The hot tub... impeccable. It was clean, modern enough and the beds were very comfortable. Our son LOVED the games and the great selection of videos. There were also some good books. The ONLY drawback was the lack of A/C, but it's rarely needed in Oregon. The place also smelled a little musty, but it wasn't overwhelming. We LOVE Moondance Cabin and hope to be back!

Warm, charming cabin

Moondance Cabin is absolutely lovely, even better than in the photos. The heat was turned on before we arrived so it was comfy warm. The location is wonderfully secluded, with the soothing sound of the rushing river. The cabin was very clean and the kitchen had all the basic supplies. The beds are getting a bit old and while the foam toppers helped a lot I would recommend new beds. But overall we had a wonderful stay and would definitely recommend.

Moondance Cabin is a little bit of magic in the woods, on the river. I was really impressed by the surroundings of this cabin. Aside from a little road noise (which is towards the back of the house where the mud room sits so the noise is hardly a nuisance), it's quiet and very therapeutic. We built fires each day; the kitchen was roomy and stocked enough for us to make meals; and the sitting areas were comfortable to relax in. We did a lot of hiking around the area with our 3.5 year old son, such as Little Zigzag Falls, Trillium Lake, Little Crater Lake and of course visiting Timberline. Also visited local restaurants the Skyway and Zigzag Inn. Picked up fresh coffee from Mt Hood Roasters about a mile up the road. That's a little gem in the woods too. The Thriftway in Welches is a great little market (a mile down the road) that has all amenities and food you would need, including draught beer and kombucha! This area of the Mt Hood National Forest is for romantics if you love to breathe in amazingly fresh air and surround yourself in nature's embrace.

Beautiful creek - not as secluded as we thought

This house is a small, cozy, lovely cabin for a maximum of four people. The hot tub sits just above the creek and the deck takes full advantage of the view of the creek. One bedroom has a large ensuite bathroom. The kitchen, dining area and living room are small but adequate for four people. The front of the house is fairly close to Lolo Pass Road but since you face the creek, being so close to a highway is not too distracting. Houses on either side are visible through the trees. No significant hiking trails from the house. It was too expensive for two nights but for a little longer stay with multiple day discounts we would consider renting this home again.

House was charming, good location. IT was clean and well presented. But it seemed moldy to me, the land line did not work ,even after handy man checked it , so i was left alone with out phone service. There was a sound coming from under the house which kept me away on the third night. IT made me feel anxious and could not sleep, i think it was the pipes. Slept in the master bedroom and did not like the mattress, seemed old, the sky lights helped but house was very dark mixed experience and i left day early as i was upset about the phone , the sounds and the darkness

We can recommend other cabins that are lighter and brighter with vaulted ceilings, lots of windows and white painted walls instead of wood walls. Unfortunately, phone service can become disrupted at times. There are areas in the Mt Hood area with better cell service that would likely help you to feel more comfortable.

Spectacular Romantic Getaway

The Cabin was beautiful. My boyfriend and I had a wonderful time. The fireplace and the hot tub were a real treat. Overall the cabin was clean and well put together. The one thing we had an issue with was the grill did not have any propane when we went to use it which was unfortunate however did not ruin the experience we had. Also to point out some I had to wash a lot of the dishes before we used them as they were not clean. Also I would like to recommend that there be a remote for the DVD player which our cabin either didn't have or we just couldn't find it. We will definitely consider coming back in future years.

The cabin overall is what we wanted. The deck is very nice and relaxing with the sound of the stream. I do have to say that I was disappointed the water was undrinkable. Kitchen stock was okay. It was nice to have a washer and dryer, but be careful washing whites due to the rust in the water. I found the mattress a little uncomfortable.

It rained all 4 days we were there, almost non-stop, so we never saw Mt. Hood and never got to sit on the patio or enjoy outdoors without an umbrella, but Mt Hood Vacation Rentals had no control over that. Otherwise, the place was perfect. Kitchen was extremely well equipped. Beds were comfortable. Fireplace was nice. Location was ideal. Nearby restaurants were superb, far exceeding our expectations. We had a slight miscommunication about how to get the key, but it was soon resolved and all was fine. Except for unending rain, it was the perfect vacation spot. We did enjoy the area.

We rented this cabin sight unseen, just going by pictures on the site. We weren't disappointed. It was a cute, cool, authentic, cozy cabin on the water, with a hot tub. Loved it. The cabin was super-clean and well-kept. The hot tub was pristine. The mattresses weren't great, they maybe could use some updating, but it was only the 2 of us so we had plenty of sleeping options. I loved the decor. (I'm a designer). Simple, authentic, real, modest. Nothing over-the-top or tacky. Moose quilts on the beds and games in the cabinet. The look of the cabin is a big deal for me, and I loved sweet Moondance. The people behind the front desk are welcoming and friendly. Thoughtful touches made a difference-like flashlights by the back door for your walk to the hot tub at night. Lamps in the right places. Spices in the kitchen, so you can cook. We spent a lot of time in the cabin, and we felt like we had everything we needed, the entire visit. It was less secluded in reality than we had pictured. But it feels very secluded. You can't see your neighbors. Every window has a view of green. You are feet from the river. The sound of the river was constant and soothing. The hot tub is angled for privacy nicely, with easy instructions. My boyfriend and I both own little vacation places in other parts of the world, and we liked our stay so much, we took a few notes from Moondance for our own rentals! The people who own this lovely little place obviously care about it, and have nice taste to boot. Great trip!

Pleasant stay near Mount Hood

I loved being near the river and the hot tub was such a treat! My two complaints are that the bathrooms were not in great condition- cheap toilet seat covers, one of them looked like it had just been haphazardly placed, didn't even align with the toilet itself. And the shower in the second bathroom didn't work. I left a message and property management tried to contact me apparently about it but I never got a message from them and didn't realize they even tried until I checked out. Also if you stay here be sure to check the hot tub first! It takes forever to heat up (about 3 hours)- I thought it wasn't even working at first. I was also surprised that when I checked in, no one mentioned this - would have been really helpful info.

The beautiful location on the river is really what this rental had going for it. It was extremely clean and I loved the wood work as well. There were many problems with the rental. On the first day, the hot tub was luke warm, and I asked for a maintenance person to come out and help me with it. He taught me how to reset the breaker box, but also told me that the hot tub has been giving guests problems chronically over the last year or so. He told me that if I was lucky, the hot tub would work for the week. I will say that I monitored it often, and it did work all week, so that was a blessing! The shower heads are so low that I had to duck down to take a shower. My friend complained about low water pressure, and his water ran out one evening in his bathroom. The office was difficult to get a hold one morning, so I drove down there. The office staff person "Mark" was extremely friendly and helpful, though! So, it's a mixed review. For the peak price we paid, I feel there should have been zero maintenance issues. However, the staff that did assist us were very friendly and helpful. Overall, it was a beautiful place and we had a great time, so I would recommend it to others, but I would warn them about the hot tub first. Marrla Wilkinson

Beautiful location right on the creek, great deck to sit and enjoy the sights and sounds. Fairly private, with only one other cabin in view through the trees. Hot tub would not stay on; we had to reset the circuit breaker quite a few times, so the water was not always "hot". The telephone worked - occasionally; which was annoying since our cell phones did not have service at the cabin. WiFi was not turned on when we arrived at the cabin and we had to figure out how to make it work. The pictures made it look quite a bit larger than it was; very cozy for two people. Very thin walls - you can hear everything between the two bedrooms. There was a toilet plunger next to the master bathroom toilet, and we quite quickly figured out why; which was a recurring problem throughout the weekend. The cabin, while situated in a beautiful location, and with amenities, is in need of some upgrading and maintenance in order to be a more enjoyable get-a-way.

We recommend dropping in the Zigzag Inn for dinner sometime, it's a great restaurant at the end of the road. If you do plan on watching movies while you're there... Don't forget to bring them! Choices in the area are VERY limited, as all the rental stores are out of business.

Repairs for safety

The location is beautiful and relaxing. They have redone the deck and it is quite unsafe because they didn't put railings on the narrow upper portion to present you from falling. The dryer turned on but after 2 hours the towels were very damp. Probably a clogged upper vent cap. There need to be a table on each side of the bed. There are carpenter ants in the dining room.

The location, scenery, cleanliness were all as fantastic as we'd hoped. Plenty of privacy. The deck is super. There's SOME road noise but there wasn't really much traffic for a weekend. We only had (what we consider) minor annoyances: Both toilet seats were very loose. One of the faucets needs to be tightened. There was the start of (I think) mold growing around the master sink. There appears to be about 4-6 inches of dry rot at the entrance to the master shower and guest bath. The hot tub was off when we went to use it (day 2). The lights were on but the temp was about 90 degrees. I reset the two breakers leading to it and it started heating again but we never got to enjoy it HOT. A screwdriver and some bleach (or likely re-caulking the sink) and it would have been a fairly perfect experience!

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay. It was a beautiful cabin, well maintained and very clean. I would gladly visit again. A couple of suggestions, the pull out sofa couch could be changed.. The material is scratchy not very cozy and begining to show it's age. The door handle to the laundry needs changing and the main bathroom could use new grout. Those issues are minor though, the cabin was more then amazing. However, if it were my cabin I would swap get on those three things to make it perfect. 🙂
