We loved staying at the Marshall cabin - perfect for a siblings get together and to celebrate the new year. Surprisingly little snow this year, but we had fun hiking, cooking and having time to talk. I’m sure we will be back!

Perfect location

Zoe R.
We had a wonderful stay at this cabin, which is perfectly situated to be easy to access but to feel like you're worlds away from it all. It has easy access to Government Camp and surrounding areas for provisions, dining out, and sightseeing, while also feeling like you are somewhere totally remote in a peaceful, beautiful setting nearby natural beauty of trails, the lake, and the property around the cabin itself. The cabin is really large and well-appointed, with lots of thoughtful touches. The large picture windows surrounded by the forest almost makes it feel like you are in a tree house, and the sounds of the creek are so serene and peaceful. We are already planning our next visit!

We enjoyed the rustic charm of the cabin in the woods, with nearby stream. Had everything we needed and ideal for exploring Mt Hood area.

The beds were what brought us here and they didn’t disappoint. It’s hard to find somewhere with as many and as comfortably spread out. The creek is so refreshing and lake trillium is just a hop and a skip away. We loved the spacious lay out and simple timeless design of the place. Would absolutely recommend and hope to stay again <3

Winter Wonderland

Sue K.
We had a snowstorm the day of arrival. Our group came from Portland, Seattle, & Lopez Island. Definitely needed an SUV to easily navigate in and out of the house. We are all seasoned winter sports professionals so we had no issues. The location is incredible; walking distance to Trillium Lake; close to Govt Camp and not far from Teacup Nordic Snopark. The house accommodated us easily (group of 6 women). It is the perfect home for a fantastic Mt. Hood experience. Nestled near Trilium Lake and a babbling creek, the home was very private and quiet. The kitchen was easy for meal prep and very well stocked with all the materials to cook any type of meal. We had a storm that cut the power to the house for a few hours. The owner thought of everything as they had a very powerful back-up generator that powered everything in the home. Cooking, heating and showering were not interrupted. Would love to return to this gorgeous home. We have all referred many other friends to this cozy cabin in the woods.

Fabulous!

Darcie M.
One of our favorite trips every year is snowshoeing into Trillium Lake for a few days. This was our first time staying at this house and we loved it. Nice to have 4 bedrooms to spread out. Kitchen / dining / living are on the smaller side but because they’re all open to one another, it worked fine for us. We loved the covered front porch and were delighted to have so much snow this year to play in. Also loved that this house is off the main trail so incredibly peaceful.

Electronic lock code didn't work so had to use backup code. We wouldn't have known backup code except for a previous conversation with different Meridith rep.

Great Family Time

Tami F.
This house was so cute and just what we needed. We really needed some time together...this was perfect. This time of year there's not much else to do in this location with the ski hill closed. There is no shampoo so bring your own. Cabin was well stocked with all other amenities. Both bathrooms are on the main floor with only one bedroom. Note that if you have people staying/sleeping upstairs or downstairs they will need to either go up/down stairs to use the bathroom. Beds were comfortable and cabin was SUPER clean. I would recommend this location for sure. Thank you for having us!!!

Wonderful Ski-in Cabin

Suzanne S.
Staying at the Marshall Cabin was a lovely adventure! Since it's a ski-in stay, getting there was part of the fun. We loaded up two pulks with food and our p.j.s & toiletries and skied downhill through the quiet twilight of the snowy forest. Beautiful! It did get dark before we got to the cabin, so we were glad to have our headlamps! Once at the cabin, we enjoyed cozy fires in the wood burning stove (wood provided), played games (cards, chess, puzzles, Pictionary etc. provided), read our novels (BYO), cooked extravagant meals in the well-stocked kitchen, and skied. Half our crew skied out to the car and headed to Meadows for downhill skiing and the other half cross-country skied the Trillium Lake loop each day. LOVED the whole experience! Highly recommend!

Marvelous winter wonderland.

Guest
There are many reasons why we go there regularly in the winter. Among them: 1) Location. It's perfectly situated near a beautiful Trillium lake. It's secluded and calm since not everyone is desirous of skiing/snowshoeing 1.5 miles from the parking area to the cabin carrying food and luggage to get there in the snowy season. There are many trails to explore and of course going around the lake is clearly our favorite. We also can hike back to the parking lot and it's a very short drive to Government Camp to resupply and only six miles to Timberline Lodge. 2) Birds. We enjoy filling the numerous bird feeders with the provided seeds and watch them. 3) Beauty. Hiking around the snow-covered trees is spectacular. At night, the trees and snow present a different tableau of sculptures; especially when varying the lighting with our flashlights. 4)Amenities. The cabin has all the kitchen resources to cook every day and has many consumable basics such as olive oil, vinegar, spices, flour, sugar etc. The internet works well enough to stream movies. There's plenty of firewood. Also, since our last visit there have been several upgrades including a battery backup and generator in case of power failures, a brand new stove and upgraded heating system. 5)Calm. Absolutely peaceful in winter. Let's be clear. It's not easily accessible in the winter, especially during heavy snowfall. However it's extremely rewarding. We plan to return.

Very nice

Guest
We had a wonderful time here. The home is very clean and well maintained. Kitchen is well stocked for cooking (both utensils and some basics like oils and spices). We enjoyed sitting on the porch playing cards while listening to the creek. Spent a little time down at Trillium Lake but this time of year there are lots of visitors so we actually found it more enjoyable to just relax at the cabin. Our only recommendation for anyone visiting is to be aware the house is on well water, and may not have the "taste" you are used to. We ended up running up to Government Camp and buying a couple gallons for drinking/cooking. We would definitely stay again here 🙂

Amazing Mt Hood Vacation Rental

Guest
Three generations shared the wonderful space in this rental: grandparents, son, grandsons and a grandson's fiance. The view was amazing. Possible side trips were easy access and hiking was great. The property was well maintained and the kitchen supplies and equipment were great. The outside grill make it easy to prepare several of our meals. Wish we could have stayed longer. Hope to go back in the very near future.

Summer Marshall Cabin Getaway

Joseph K.
We were looking for a nice, peaceful getaway from it all for our family. Marshall Cabin certainly met our needs. Not too far from Government Camp, past the Still Creek Campground, right alongside a peaceful creek and tucked into the woods. A true cabin experience with the amenities you need. The kids loved playing by the creek, mountain biking, and feeding the birds. A short 2 mile bike ride to Trillium Lake. We hope to rent again down the road. There are a handful of properties around it but still feels secluded with the trees and large lots. We are a family of 6 and felt like we could have slept several more. It is 3 levels, the main level is up a good flight of stairs. Our dog is a bit of an old timer and struggled a little bit with that. That said, the covered porch at the top was my favorite spot. Nice outdoor dining setup where you can birdwatch and listen to the creek. Wonderful place to sip your coffee in the AM, wine in the evening or just have a meal with family/friends. Would love to experience it in the winter time as well. One small maintenance item was the skillet on the stove did not get hot enough while we were there. It was a fully stocked kitchen so had no issues making an audible. In summary, place is a gem and we really enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful escape to celebrate shoulder season in nature

The Marshall Cabin is a lovely, well organized home a few steps from a small stream and at this time of year behind a locked forest service gate making for an exceptionally peaceful and private retreat.

Fantastic Place in the snow

Guest
Walking in the snow in the dark with headlamps was a magical way to travel to this precious place. My two young sons and my mother had no trouble with the walk - only challenge was keeping the paper map dry. The cabin is big, clean, comfortable, very well maintained, near a creek and not too far from neighbors. I loved the sound of the creek out the kitchen window. We built a fire every night. The bedrooms can get chilly, but there are plenty of blankets. Internet and TV worked fine, but who really needs that out here? We played board games, did puzzles and made hot cocoa at night. During the day we snowshoed, cross country skiied and built snow forts. It is not too far to hike back out to Government Camp. Overall, a wonderful escape from city life.

Perfect honeymoon cabin!

Guest
We absolutely loved this cabin. It's obvious that someone put a lot of thought and energy into making it everything a secluded cabin in the woods should be. The kitchen includes just about everything you could possibly need to cook meals for two or ten. The heart pine floors are gorgeous, and the picture windows never let you forget how beautiful it is outside. My husband got a kick out of the wood stove, too. I still can't get over the creek that runs along one side of the house. It's the most peaceful home I think I've ever stayed in. Working with Mount Hood Vacation Rentals was awesome. They were very friendly, professional, and helpful. The (electric) stove actually broke one evening toward the end of our trip, and they had a repair person out by noon the next day. He fixed it in about an hour. We were impressed. It was very convenient to be so close to hiking trails. We hiked Tom, ****, and Harry Mountain and Elk Meadows. The former trailhead is a 5 minute drive from the cabin, and the latter is about 20 minutes. Apple picking at Kirokawa Family Orchard was also a fun activity when it rained on the mountain, and only about 35 minutes away. We really couldn't have been happier. We would love to come back!

We are so happy to hear how much you loved the Marshall Cabin for your honeymoon. Congratulations! The homeowner is the 3rd generation in their family to care for the property (this cabin replaces two original cabins), so there is a lot of family pride and love for this land. It is our pleasure that you had the opportunity to share the love of this cabin and location. You should see how magical it is during the winter months surrounded by snow when you can cross country ski from the front door.

Marshall Cabin Stay

Marshall Cabin is great. We stayed with our children and grandchildren after a family wedding in Eastern Oregon. The multi-generation history of the cabin was moving as was the woodsy, historic neighborhood. The huckleberries made a delicious pie, too! Descriptions were accurate, cabin was clean, manager was excellent, would recommend and we enjoyed Timberline Lodge, Trillium Lake, Pacific Crest Trail hiking and walking the neighborhood. The cabin may be a little hard to find without GPS.

The cabin was clean and in great shape. We were a full 10 people including 6 children and there were enough beds for every child to sleep in a separate bed. The creek on the property was lots of fun and it really is a very short drive to get to Trillium lake which was absolutely beautiful!!

House was great. Location amazing. Rental experience seamless. Appreciate the bath toys and kids books as well as the baby gate (didn’t use this time around). Would be awesome if you had a stool in the bathroom to help little ones wash hands and get on the potty. Even a collapsible stool like we have at home. Lastly, there were a few robo calls to the house land line. At least one was before 7am. We wake early so it didn’t bother us but not everyone is up as early as we are. I’m not sure what you can do about that but something other renters may not appreciate.
Manager Response
We love the location of the Marshall Cabin, too. It is so special to have a lovely cabin in the middle of the forest and near Mt Hood recreation. Thanks for the head's up about the robo calls. We will put this number on the no call list and hope it helps.

Peaceful, Comfortable Cabin Beside a Clear Stream In the Forest

Kathleen F.
My husband and I were impressed with the peaceful setting combined with top quality appointments inside. Each of the many windows offers a green and calming view. We slept soundly, woke refreshed and enjoyed the easy-to-navigate kitchen for the meals we prepared for ourselves. It is close to beautiful Trillium Lake as well as the amazing Timberline Lodge and offers miles of walking options at the doorstep. Highly recommended.
