Mt Hood Total Solar Eclipse

Solar Eclipse at Mt Hood

The Great American Total Solar Eclipse will pass across the United States on August 21, 2017, starting in Oregon, moving in a southeasterly direction all the way to South Carolina. The path of totality (where viewers will be immersed in total darkness for about 2 minutes) is just south of the Villages of Mt Hood and Mt Hood Vacation Rentals, passing through the Mt Hood area at about 10:19 AM. The partial eclipse will start just after 9:00 AM with the end of the partial eclipse happening at about 11:40 AM.

During those brief moments when the moon completely blocks the sun’s surface for 2 + minutes, day will turn into night, making visible the otherwise hidden solar corona, the sun’s outer atmosphere. Bright stars and planets will become visible as well. This is truly one of nature’s most awesome sights.

When you stay in a vacation rental in the Villages of Mt Hood, you will be in 99% of the path of totality depending upon the location, so you will still see almost the entire eclipse and will experience darkness mid-morning when the sun should be shining brightly in the sky. Or you can take a short drive to just the south of the Villages to experience the totality of the solar eclipse.

The last total solar eclipse that was viewable in Oregon occurred in 1979 and the next total solar eclipse to pass over Oregon will be in 100 years! Take advantage of this rare opportunity to experience this astronomical event when you visit Mt Hood.

Many lodging accommodations in or near the path of the solar eclipse are already sold out. However, Mt Hood Vacation Rentals has one vacation homes, the Deer View Retreat that is still available, so act fast and book your cabin, chalet or lodge now. Guests who stay with us for the eclipse can also take advantage of our Mt Hood Vacation Rentals Solar Eclipse Package.
