Such a great cabin, everyone loved it! I especially like the private seating area down by the river. We enjoyed some wonderful February sun down there!
Great place...bathroom ceiling needs painting. but we had a great time. the river was awesome and lots of room and space for everyone
This is one of our favorite homes, too. The bathroom maintenance is on the list this fall. It should be done by the time you visit again.
Kari at Mt. Hood Rentals is amazing - she is filled with excitement and knowledge and (clearly) a love of the mountain. She is eager to help with anything and is a delight to work with.
It was a Fantastic stay as usual - absolutely beautiful! Thank you!!
We had a wonderful time. The only problem was the sound on the TV, and a phone call the next day solved it.
In general the stay was excellent. The layout was great with 5 cozy bedrooms and a very workable separation of the TV and Fireplace with excellent seating accommodations. The place was well stocked and the furniture was more than ample. Having firewood was a nice touch. The deck, although not used due to the weather, looked particularly inviting.A few things would make it even better:1) The electrical is ancient with no grounding, some sockets not secure and no GFI’s.2) The down stairs shower was inoperable3) There should be a garbage disposal4) The hot tub was cool at 91°5) The internet became inoperable after a power failure. Although reconnecting was simple, the instructions for doing this were not published. Simple enough, but impossible if it is not noted somewhere. This is particularly frustrating when the brochure states that power failures are not unusual. Getting on the internet is absolutely essential to those who are required to check their email. FYI every time there is a power failure or the router is reset do the following:a. Log on to the wireless routerb. Log onto the internet (will get an error message)c. Type 192.168.1.1/Verizon/redirect.htm into the address bari. Username is Adminii. Password is passwordd. Click on DISABLEe. Next screeni. Username is Adminii. Password is Adminiii. Confirm Password Adminiv. Voila – logged on!!6) With all of the snow it was very difficult finding the actual car port at night. Better instructions or even someone at the facility would have been helpful.7) A walking map of the local area would help. For example, how does one get to the river?8) Lastly, for a variety of reasons we were not able to bring the dogs. I can understand why there would be an extra charge for having dogs. I don’t understand why there is a charge for dogs when they were not there. This is unacceptable. I will call to get a bett
The house was very nice and spacious and great location. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
The only problem we encountered was the sound on the TV did not work (and my husband spent 2 days figuring out how to fix it) and the bathroom faucet handle was broken. Other than that it was fantastic! The property managers were terrific-- knowledgable, helpful and caring people.
We have purchased a new surround stereo for the home which has been integrated into the TV, so now you can watch movies or listen to music in surround sound. There are 5 or 6 speakers throughout the room! And we have replaced both bathroom faucets, so this will not be a problem for your next visit.
The property was very nice. I wished the hot tub had worked better, but other than that I loved the sound of the river and the stroll down to the water. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I would definitly consider this or another property in the future.
I had not gotten the impression from the website that we would be so close and have such a great view of the river! It was great! I do wish the hot tub were a bit closer to the home, but it was still a great amenity. I love the wraparound, covered porch and the drive through (although quite narrow) driveway. Unloading was much easier this way. Overall the house was great and we had an excellent time. I chose this home because it had a unique style and because it could sleep more than many of the others. I would consider taking down the car port that is already almost fallen over, but as I said I did enjoy the style of the home. Thank you for the wonderful stay. We plan to look into renting this house during the summer months next time so that we can enjoy the river.
The house was great, we had a very good time, the hot tub was not very convenient being by the garage, so we didn’t get to use it, we wished it was on the house deck, that would have been wonderful, the bathrooms needed maintenance but all in all they are ok to use.... The house needs a new oven too because only one side lights up when your baking...The only thing the house had a spooky feeling to it, we are dying to know what’s in that cabinet in the bunk bed room bc that’s were the knocking noises were coming from at night but the door is locked....and downstairs is warm but upstairs in the hallway was super cold...But I really recommend this house, the sound of the river is beautiful and the location is wonderful close to the store and to mt.hood was 10 minutes and the staff was excellent in the rental office and very helpful.
Thanks for letting us know about the oven. We will take a look at that. It is only a couple of years old, so it might just need a new element. The closet you are asking about is for extra supplies like toilet paper and laundry detergent. Nothing else in there, sorry. If you keep the door at the bottom of the stairs open, the heat should rise to the upstairs.
I would recomend an upgrade to the kitchen, at least the dishwasher and definately a gabage disposal. (its good for the septic tank)
i like the old and traditional nature of this house. however, some of the appliances are just very difficult. The DW did not work and neither did the TV. I think it could stand some updating.
Great quiet spot to get away from the chaos of the 4th of July back home. We spent a lot of time on the deck enjoying the river. The only issues we had were with the TV - first we could not locate the remote. Turns out it was buried in couch cushions and as I was looking in the cushions it dropped down to the floor - but didn't discover it there till later. Haha! Then TV had sound initially but after a little while, no sound. We left for a while and when we got back, TV's sound worked again, briefly. Then I figured out to use the surround sound to hear programs (hint: use the VCR to watch TV). Instructions would've been nice as every set up is different. The property was just beautiful. Close to town but quiet.
The house was in a great location - loved it. The bathrooms could definitely use some updating. Upstairs bedroom had paint peeling off the wall and in the closet. Would suggest some minor maintenance in this area.
Hi-The bathroom is being updated this spring. We are installing a ventilation fan, so the moisture won't cause the paint to peel. This project should be done by June. Also, there was water damage this winter due to a leaky roof. The roof is being repaired this week and the sheetrock and paint in the bedrooms is being fixed next week, so all will be done by first of June.
Could have better selection of cooking utensils ,pots and pans. Cereal bowls were too big. Needs more smaller size glasses and bowls.
it was generally pretty clean except for the upstairs bathroom. No ventilation, no switch for a fan, windows open but too cold after a shower, dried bugs on ceiling and peeling paint, mildewed window shade. Some rooms could use a new coat of paint! Also, very dim lights -- pretty but really hard to read by.
We have a paint job and vent install scheduled for right after the new year.
We had a wonderful time and appreciated our stay at the Huckleberry Cabin. We've been looking for a cabin to become our go to spot and this cabin could be just what we've been looking for. However, two of the bedrooms really need some help. The beds in the trundle room and bunk room are unusable for adults. The trundle bed squeaks with every breath. The only option for a decent night sleep is to put a mattress on the floor, thus rendering the room as a single occupancy room versus the double occupancy it's billed as. The bunk room is even worse. Our friend who drew the short straw was more comfortable sleeping on the couch downstairs versus trying to make that room comfortable. As a result, the house is really usable as a 3 or 4 bedroom house not the 5 bedroom it's listed as. Thanks,Angela
Thank you very much for your comments. We are in the process of replacing the trundle bed with a queen bed and will be reinforcing the slats for the bunk beds and adding new mattresses to make them much more comfortable. We will see you again soon!
Overall we were very pleased with the property, and we all had a great time. A couple of minor changes would have earned all five-star ratings. The gas stove has one nonfunctioning burner. The kitchen is will equipped, but lacked instruction sheets. In particular the control of the burners on the stove is not intuitively obvious, and the coffee/espresso maker needed a bit of explanation. We chose not to use the latter. Lastly, we all felt that there was need for more light in the kitchen and the living area. We had fully sunny days, but had to turn on lamps during the day. At the very least the existing lamps needed higher wattage bulbs, but larger lamps would have been better. We'll chalk problems with the TV up to old guys trying to run technology. The folks from the rental office were super in providing the help we needed when we needed it.Now it may sound like there were lots of things wrong, but in fact these are minor items that simply would have made a superb experience even better. We had a great time and would have no qualms about recommending Mt. Hood Rentals to friends.
Really enjoyed the location and rustic feel of the house. It could use a few updates at this point, especially considering the rent, but still comfortable and pleasant in that rustic cabin way.
We had a wonderful time. More directions for the hot tub would have been helpful and the downstairs bathroom could use some upgrading. Also, we had a problem with the tv and though someone came out to check it, the problem was not corrected and we were not given a new tv.
Hi-Thank you for your comments. The property owner is looking into a bathroom upgrade, so hopefully the next time you visit, it will have been done. We apologize that the TV sound was so low. It took a couple of visits and quite a bit of troubleshooting to determine the problem, however it has been resolved now. There should be instructions for the hot tub in the Guest Guide Book in the home. We will check to be sure they are still in the book. Betsy
Huckleberry Lodge was very convenient to hiking trails, stores and restaurants. It has a wonderful roofed deck for relaxining and enjoying the sights and sound of the Salmon River and we all enjoyed the hot tub.
We had a girls weekend at the Huckleberry and throughly enjoyed it. Favorites were the fireplace and the porch overlooking the river. Lovely!
This is the second time we have stayed in a cabin in this area. We were expecting to have a weekend of privacy with our dogs and were dissapointed to find that we had a neighbor right next to us. This property should not be called secluded, not even semi secluded, and we would not have chosen to stay at this cabin if we had known it wasn't secluded as advertised. With that said, we had a good time. The short walk to the river was nice, although a neighbor had four large labs running around on the property often so we had to time our trips outside around them. The cabin itself was great, the property was beautiful, and the people at the office were very friendly. We will not stay at this cabin again because we like to stay in places with more privacy, but for someone who doesn't care about seclusion the cabin would be great.
We apologize to hear that you did not have the seclusion you were looking for. Not sure about the 4 dogs, they must have been weekend visitors, too. Make sure you remind us about the importance of seclusion when you make your next reservation.
The electrical wiring became loose during our stay, causing the lights to be at about 25%. When management was called, they said they would come the next day, despite there being no heat and limited firewood. A couple of calls later, management finally came out and PGE got the problem fixed, but the response from management was very slow.
I had a personal emergency a few days before the weekend was planned. I tried and tried to postpone the rental to the following weekend, or to another home the following weekend.I understand that I had a signed contract and had chosen not to purchase cancellation insurance. However, human emergencies arise, and it seemed to me that especially for a returning renter they would have shown some compassion and flexibility. I would have been happy to switch to any of the MANY other homes that were available the next weekend, including a smaller home. Some of our group ended up going; my party came for just dinner one night. Condition of the house - generally good, though in the bathrooms the paint is peeling, shower curtains are mildewy, Otherwise it is a beautiful home. But I will not rent from them again. What if there had been a death in the family? would they still have shown such lack of human compassion?
The good news is that the emergency wasn't too serious as you were still able to come up to the mountain for the weekend. We are glad that you and your friends had a good time! It is too bad that some of your friends cancelled on you at the last minute.
The setting was beautiful. The web picture layout made it seem as though the river was closer to the house. In actuality it was a bit of a hike down a very small trail. The house was very drafty and cold, especially in the dining room and upstairs. The hot tub was too far away from the main house and the building it was in was in very poor condition.
